Musing Mondays (6 January 2013)

Musing Mondays is a weekly meme created by Should be Reading

Musing Mondays asks you to muse about one of the following each week…
• Describe one of your reading habits.
• Tell us what book(s) you recently bought for yourself or someone else, and why you chose that/those book(s).
• What book are you currently desperate to get your hands on? Tell us about it!
• Tell us what you’re reading right now — what you think of it, so far; why you chose it; what you are (or, aren’t) enjoying it.
• Do you have a bookish rant? Something about books or reading (or the industry) that gets your ire up? Share it with us!
• Instead of the above questions, maybe you just want to ramble on about something else pertaining to books — let’s hear it, then!
MY MUSING MONDAY:
This is my first one, so I think I'm going to start off with my reading habits since this is something I need to improve. This past year, my reading has been slowly going downhill due to school. When I started University, I found it hard to read, but I found the perfect time to read and that was when I was at work. I work in the library, so it only seemed fitting that I read there.
I could finish a book in two days of working and I loved that about my job. However, when the term ended almost a month ago, my reading began to go down hill. I just didn't have a great reading streak. I have to find time to fit reading into my nonexistent schedule and it's harder than it looks. Sometimes, I want to read, but I just can't be bothered.
If the books I am reading are some of the best books I have ever read, then yes, I will make an effort to read them quickly.
One of the hardest things for me is finding a place to read. I love sitting in a big chair with music playing. The hardest part at home is finding that kind of space since my siblings are always around and they seem to love making loud noises. I need to get a comfy big chair where I can do all of my reading.
I tried reading before I went to bed, but I ended on a really good part and it kept me up most of the night thinking about it. Reading when I go to bed just doesn't work for me.

Reflection Time: November 2013

Hey Everyone!

It's that time of the month where I give you a little insight into my life. I hope you enjoy reading about the lovely times I've had and feel free to share anything in the comments below.

This month I have been participating in National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) where the goal is to write a whole novel in the span of a month. I feel accomplished because it's a hard thing--writing a whole novel in a month. I have big plans for this weighty manuscript and I can't wait to continue on the journey with it. When I was supposed to be writing, I instead found myself on the social networking sites like tumblr and twitter. Tumblr I've always been on, but twitter I would check once a day, but once November started I found myself living on the websites more than ever.

On the weekend of the 16th, I went to my cousin's daughter's first birthday party. She was such a cutie in her little outfit! It was nice to be at a family gathering for the first time since August. Being in college has made me miss my family more than ever. Despite seeing my cousin Paul every other day for my maths class. I just love having quality time to see my family and my (not really) grandparents (they are my cousins grandparents). I just adore seeing the whole family in one place and love chatting with my aunt and my cousins. I love watching all the little kids play together.

One other thing that I have come to learn this month is to not procrastinate. Procrastination is often seen as any human's worst enemy and I can safely say that it is the full blown truth. I am constantly waiting until the last minute to complete any and every project. For example, at the beginning of the month I had a debate planned and I was only waiting because my partner never wanted to meet with me. I like getting things done and you can only imagine my frustration with this. I ended up getting a C- on the debate and 60% on the research because I didn't format it correctly. Seriously? You can't just observe the data I found and go off of that? Ugh... it annoyed me. We got these comment cards from the classmates and everyone seemed to enjoy mine and not my partners. I feel like I got an A just because of those.

I also intended to set myself on a book buying ban, but alas, it never happened. I don't know how I am going to survive when I intend to study abroad in the future. I will have to sleep in bed with my Kindle and transport books back one by one throughout the semester as I finish them. That, or pack REALLY lightly.

I have been conversing back and forth with a critique partner and it has been the greatest help ever. She is so sweet and gives helpful feedback. On top of that, her story is absolutely amazing! I can't wait to read more!

Thanksgiving was also this month and I was extremely blessed to have gotten the opportunity to spend it with the family that I care about the most. They are all spectacular. Take a look at some of the photos that I took on Thanksgiving below:

NaNoWriMo 2013: Week 3

Hey Everyone!

It's that time of week again where I update you on my NaNoWriMo novel!

This week was a little bit of a downer as I had started to "fall behind" in my eyes. In reality, I had over 8,000 words ahead of schedule, but I became so overwhelmed with school work that it was absolutely impossible for me to write every day.

I also did some word sprints with some people on twitter on Sunday morning which was nice. I am so pleased with how many of you lovely people now follow me on twitter, thank you so much. I've gained almost 100 followers since the first and that just makes me feel very blessed that I get to share a little bit of my life with you.

How are you feeling at the moment?
I am feeling wonderful, but a little tired. I seemed to have forgotten my caffeine fix at my house forty-five minutes away. I also am excited because I am getting to the climax of the story and it's just exciting because I never thought I would finish a novel like this ever in my life. I am often known for not finishing.

Did your story take any unexpected turns?
Not really, last week was more of a battle for me in that department.

How is your plot progressing?
Really well! I know it needs to slow down a lot, but that is what a second draft is for!

Favorite character to write thus far?
It's still Jameson. I am still in love with his character and his past. His personality is so interesting, but there is a lot of him I need to change in the beginning because I felt I changed him too much from when he was introduced.

He's this sort of sensitive character who is so vulnerable and that is what makes him more human than Marcus. There is so much depth between Jameson and Harry Styles helped me bring him to life. His eyes hold so much and that is kind of how I want to convey Jameson.

Anything you wish you could change?
Probably the pacing like I have said. Plus, add more descriptions, chapters, and longer chapters.

Current word count?
31,425 words :D

Reflection Time: October

(c) TheTeaLover
Hey Everyone!

I thought that I would do something I like to call a monthly reflection. I guess since I am sharing all of my thoughts on amazing books that I would also give an insight into my own life as well.

This month has been absolutely incredible. I went home every single weekend this month and it was great just to be able to sleep in my own bed. I also got to know my roommate even better and she has become one of my closest friends.

School wise, this month has begun to grow to be a very stressful time for me just because I've never had pressures like the ones I have here. It's absolutely overwhelming with the sudden life changes like college. I also don't know what to think of my future because I fear that I have some sort of test anxiety that prevents me from doing incredibly well on any exam. I don't know, is it me just being paranoid.

High wise, I got the most incredible writing idea from watching the UK version of Big Brother and I am adjusting it to fit my writing style and such. I'm excited to hopefully share this with you one day. I am so antsy to start writing it tomorrow when NaNoWriMo begins.

Low wise, I would have to say the pressures of being a college student and my surprising allergic reaction. On Monday, I ended up going to a nurse practitioner here on my campus and she diagnosed me with something called Ucaria which is basically an allergic reaction to something unknown. Needless to say, I found out it's from the fabric softener or something I wash my clothes in. My parents still have not brought my the new stuff... I think my Dad forgot. It was scary because my throat was starting to close! Yikes!

Today, I have work and I also started the infamous Christmas shopping season! I have one sibling done. I hope my sister likes the book I got her as well as the super awesome book mark!

I hope you liked the short snippet into my life, I enjoyed writing it!

Until Next Time,
